
App Audit Reports — Diagnosing App Health Like a Mechanic
Overview
When maintaining a car, regular tune-ups help ensure everything runs smoothly — and apps are no different. I initiated and led the creation of App Audit Reports, a proactive service that provides customers with a clear, data-driven overview of their app’s health.
This self-led initiative identified opportunities to improve app performance, engagement, and design quality — empowering customers to make informed decisions about their app’s next steps.
My Role
Lead UX Designer & Strategist
• Self-initiated project in partnership with the design team.
• Conceptualized the audit framework and analogy (app = car checkup)
• Designed the visual and content structure of the report
• Collaborated with data and design teams to compile analytics
• Crafted customer-facing recommendations to drive retention and satisfaction
The Challenge
Many customers launched their apps and never revisited them for updates or improvements. Without insight into app health, engagement rates plateaued and opportunities for product enhancements were often missed.
We needed a way to re-engage customers post-launch, provide tangible value, and support them in maintaining a high-performing app.
The Solution
The App Audit Report acts as a “checkup” for apps — assessing everything from design and versioning to engagement metrics. Each report includes:
• A clear summary of the app’s overall “health”
• Analytics on user engagement and push notification activity
• Recommendations for UI/UX improvements and strategy enhancements
• Actionable next steps prioritized by impact
The tone and structure mirrored a mechanic’s diagnostic report, making the concept approachable and easy for non-technical clients to understand.
The Process
1. Discovery & Ideation — Identified the gap in post-launch engagement through customer feedback and support trends.
2. Research & Framework Design — Outlined the diagnostic areas: analytics, UX/UI design, shell version, and notification health.
3. Visual Design — Created a consistent, easy-to-read layout for the reports with branded visuals and clear status indicators.
4. Implementation & Delivery — Partnered with account managers to roll out the audits to a pilot group of customers.
Impact
• Influenced ~$30K in Monthly Recurring Revenue (MRR) within the first month of launch
• Improved customer engagement with post-launch services
• Strengthened customer trust and retention by proactively identifying opportunities
• Inspired the company to adopt a more data-driven approach to customer success
Takeaways
This project reinforced the power of UX strategy that bridges business and design. By combining analytics, storytelling, and empathy for the user (our customers), we created a tool that delivered measurable impact while improving client experience and satisfaction.
